State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh

On February 19, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh in Vientiane, Laos.

Wang Yi said that under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, the Party and the Chinese people, re fighting against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Through arduous efforts, remarkable results have been made in preventing and controlling the epidemic. As China and ASEAN are linked by mountains and rivers sharing weal and woe, it is necessary for us to share information in a timely manner, strengthen unity and cooperation and work hand in hand to deal with the epidemic so as to safeguard the lives and health of the peoples of China and ASEAN countries. Vietnam, as the chair of ASEAN, has actively echoed China's proposal to hold a special China-ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting to combat the epidemic, reflecting the fine tradition of the two countries' commitment to supporting and helping each other as good neighbors, good friends, good partners and good comrades. I believe tomorrow's special foreign ministers' meeting will be a complete success and send a strong and clear signal to the outside world that China and ASEAN countries will work closely to overcome the current difficulty.

Wang Yi pointed out that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam, and the comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation between the two countries has entered a critical stage linking the past and the future. The two sides should carry forward the friendship forged he by previous generations of leaders, implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and countries, maintain high-level strategic communication, promote exchanges and cooperation across the board and strengthen people-to-people and sub-national exchanges. The two countries should properly manage differences, steadily promote practical cooperation in various fields and uphold the common strategic interests of the two socialist countries. China attaches great importance to LMC cooperation and is ready to work with Vietnam to actively promote the coordination between LMC and the New Land-Sea Corridor and contribute to the development of the LMC Economic Development Belt.

Pham Binh Minh said that Vietnam highly appreciates China's efforts to combat the epidemic, and believes that the Chinese government and people will triumph over the difficulty. The infected patients in Vietnam have basically recovered. Vietnam is ready to make joint efforts with China to ensure that tomorrow's special foreign ministers' meeting be successful. ASEAN and China will be able to work together to prevail over the epidemic.

Pham Binh Minh said that currently Vietnam-China relations are in good shape as the two sides have maintained high-level exchanges and bilateral trade and investment cooperation have enjoyed dynamic development. He hoped that the two sides will strengthen strategic communication, jointly hold activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and promote cooperation in various sectors for greater achievements. Vietnam stands ready to enhance political mutual trust with China, properly handle maritime differences and encourage local governments, particularly border areas, to strengthen cooperation. Vietnam appreciates that China has supported Vietnam in its role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and as the chair of ASEAN, and is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with China within the framework of multilateral mechanisms. Vietnam hails the achievements of LMC cooperation and will work with China to advance the development of this mechanism.
