The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Mumbai and the Dr.Kotnis Memorial Committee jointly Organize a Prayer Event in Support of China Against the COVID-19 Epidemic
On February 20th, The Chinese Consulate and Dr. Kotnis Memorial Committee co-organized a candlelight rally near the Gateway of India to support China's fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. Mr. Tang Guocai, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Mumbai, Mr. Ramdas Athawale, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment of India, Mr.Rejendra Jadhav, Founder of Dr. Kotnis Memorial Committee, Dr. Sumangla Kotnis Borkar, niece of Dr. Kotnis, and Mr. Aryanag Attadarshi, president of World Buddhist Mission, attended the event.


Mr. Tang introduced the latest progress of China's fight against the epidemic, saying the spread of the epidemic has been initially contained, and the prevention and control work has achieved staged results. We have the confidence and ability to win the war against the epidemic. Mr.Tang emphasized that doctors are white angels who help to save lives. The prayer activity organized by the Dr. Kotnis Memorial Committee is the best manifestation of Dr.Kotnis' spirit in the new era.


Minister Athawale highly appreciated the efficient, transparent and positive progress of the Chinese government, and he believed that the Chinese people will overcome the epidemic. He stressed that COVID-19 is the common enemy of the world, China and India should work together to overcome difficulties.

During the event, people held the candles and walked along the walking path near Gateway of India to pray for China. They chanted slogans such as "We are one", "China, stay strong" and "China win". Deputy Consul General Wang Yanhua, Commercial Counsellor Liu Mingming, local Chinese community, and representatives from the cultural and business circles participated in the event.


Mr. Tang also gave interviews to media including the The Hindu, Asia News International, ZEE News, India Today, Mumbai Mirror, etc.
